Intro to Erin

To start, I enjoy wit and humor, hence the title of this blog. That would probably be the most important thing I could say about myself. Second is that I love literature and writing. My fortes are poetry and short stories, however I hope to publish my own novel one of these days. That would explain why I chose to become an English Education major. I chose the education part so that I could have some spare time to write and also, because I've always enjoyed school and I guess I just never want to leave. One of my favorite things in this world is my one-eyed Chihuahua named Skippy. Another is my Kindle (one of the most useful electronics I own, even more so than my cell phone). I suppose that's the basics.

  2. I am an English Education major as well. I have always loved the written language especially personal letters. I feel I communicate best that way.
I dream of one day writing letters to my wife or friends that are on the same level as letters Ronald Reagan, John Adams, George Washington, and Abraham Lincoln wrote during their lives. While I know those men were geniuses, they are an inspiration to me. I see though their writings how beautiful our language is.
I also enjoy writing poetry and short stories but am far to bashful to ever let anyone read them.

  3. Greetings Erin,

That bit about having extra time to write as a teacher has me hopeful. I am not English Education, but I think it is very probable that I will wind up teaching at some point, simply because of the great need for educators in the U.S. right now.

I have dabbled and ventured into writing short stories myself, but whenever I have attempted to write them they end up novels, and then those novels end up trilogies. Although at this point I have only scribed enough to constitute a single standard novel, I store all the details and happenings in my mind.

I have to object to the Kindle on principle. E-books may win me over one day, but as of now I can't see it happening. I enjoy too much the physical act of turning the page, and of feeling the age of the book on my fingers. So many evocative details are lost when you pop open a clean metal book.

What kind of poetry do you enjoy writing? Is there any specific type, or do you just write whenever inspired?

  4. It's no specific type of poetry, just expressing moments and emotions. I haven't been writing lately, which makes me feel really disconnected. However, reading helps me write and I've been trying to do that more often. That's why I got thw Kindle and I prefer reading out of the physical book as well, but the Kindle really saves time and space (and thats great bc I have a tiny apartment).

  5. Ah, I see. I used to write a great deal of poetry when I was younger, but now I write just a handful a year.
